Remember my relatives, Denise & Ben, from their maternity shoot that I did back in April? Well, here they are 7 months later taking their family Christmas portraits! Only this time, someone new came for their shoot....Baby Sophia! :)

I don't think I have to say a thing about how adorable and cute and beautiful she is! Just look at her in some of these photos from their shoot! (That first one with her about to chomp on that yummy pine cone kills me).

A few weeks ago, I received an email from Michael's mother, asking if I could take some portraits for her son's 1st birthday. Leticia said she had found me online, said some really sweet things about my work, and was interested in booking me for a shoot :) I was so excited to meet her and her son, who just turned 1 on August 6th.

I absolutely love this age. And as you can see, Michael is one handsome little boy. When we first met at our location, I just couldn't stop thinking how adorable he was! Thank you, Leticia, for finding me and allowing me to capture some moments of your baby boy. It was such a pleasure working with you both and I had a lot of fun! Thank you for enduring the heat as well..you all did wonderful & I just adore so many of these moments :) Hope you & your family can enjoy these photos of Michael for years to come!

Well, like I said...he just turned 1. So I thought this #1 block was appropriate ;)

You can't have a birthday without balloons....many of these were "UP" inspired :)

[...VANESSA & ANNA...]

Anna is a friend from work and Vanessa is her *now* 15-year-old daughter. A few weeks ago, Anna emailed me asking to book a shoot as a surprise birthday gift that she wanted to give to Vanessa. This resulted in a fun morning photo shoot at the beach.

First, can I just say what beautiful and sweet people these two are. I've known Anna for about 2 years now, and she has always been one of the kindest people ever. Her daughter, Vanessa, is such a sweetheart and has such a bubbly personality. I had never met her before, but when I did that day, I felt like I had already known her for a long time before. They were both naturals in front of the camera and took direction easily. I didn't have to say much and they knew what I was going for. By the end of the session, we were cracking up and running around looking silly (but not caring) on the sand. This is one of the shoots where I think I definitely had the most fun.

Secondly, I. love. the. beach. The fact that I can go there for a job that I enjoy doing made me feel so thankful. I had some time before they arrived to just sit there on the sand and think. With all the craziness and busy schedules life can throw at you, sometimes you feel like you can never just get a moment to do that. It felt so good & so peaceful. I definitely felt so thankful to be there.

Anna is just stunning. She looks like she could be sisters with Vanessa. I just love this one, it's my favorite shot of her.
& Vanessa is such a beautiful girl!
Jumping photos never really fail to make me smile.
And speaking of smiles, look at her great one :)

You know what else never fails? Heart hands.

I just love how they had fun together doing this. This one of them laughing together is one of my favorites.
And these next two to me show how much they love each other and enjoy being together.
I felt so honored to be able to do this shoot for them :) It was such a great gift idea by Anna to give to her only daughter, and I had so much fun capturing these moments for them.
Anna & Vanessa: Thank you again for such a fun time & allowing me to do this for you both! You two are wonderful!

I just realized I never blogged these photos! This means my blog has been missing out on a little bit more cuteness! These are from the photo shoot I did for my little sister's birthday present. This is her boyfriend's daughter, Kara, who often finds herself in front of my lens :) It loves her! (She can also be found in my blog here)

She reminds my sister and I of the princess from The Princess & the Frog. That first photo was all too easy to come up with :) [and also one of my favorites]. Also, this one:
There's so much to do with a bouquet of flowers and a basket!

And she picked up this flower all by herself and walked right up to Janelle to give it to her. Glad I caught the moment :)

Ben & Thomas are Gen's (seen in the previous post) little brothers. They really liked having their picture taken, plus they were so sweet and all too adorable, which worked for me :)

It's always intersting to me to see the creativity & all the different reactions from kids when I say, "Show me your silliest face."

In our faith, we believe that families can be together forever, and that marriages do not end in death, but a husband and wife can be together forever. I think this is one of the most beautiful things about what we believe to be true, and it's always so wonderful to find out a couple has been "sealed" (as our church calls it) to each other in one of our beautiful temples. This is a very sacred & special ceremony in the temple, and for us, just knowing that you can be with the people that you love so much (your husband, your wife, your parents, and your children) forever, and that you will see them again, is a wonderful and comforting fact. I know that my husband and my family are the most precious and important things to me, and it's wonderful to have an answer in knowing that I can see them again no matter what happens in this life.

Gen & Chris are some friends who were sealed together in June at the Los Angeles Temple.
I LOVE to visit this temple. The grounds are beautiful and covered with pretty flowers, and there are a lot of great spots for photos. It's always so peaceful and calm there, I could just walk around those grounds all day. My husband and I like to go and visit the grounds and just sit on a bench and talk.
Family and friends came to share this special day with them, and I had the opportunity to photograph their special day.
Everyone was so happy for them, as I was too :)

Gen & Chris arrived early in the morning with their family, and we took some quick portraits of them before they headed into the temple.
The lighting was perfect in the morning. It's in Santa Monica, close to the beach, so it was overcast and not too hot yet. Gen has two cute little brothers, Thomas & Ben, who I will show some photos of in a later post :)
And here's Gen and Chris with Gen's mother and step-dad. Such nice people!
Later in the day, we went and took some photos of just the 2 of them together. I am so happy for them! :)It was a great day, and they deserve all the happiness in the world.

[...The T Family...]

I know Todd & JoAnn from church and I have to say, they are just the sweetest people and also have 4 beautiful daughters. Yes, that's right, FOUR girls. And I thought my dad had his hands full having 3 girls...but there's a #4 in the T Family mix! It was a lot of fun to do their family photographs...JoAnn told me they hadn't done any in about 4 years and felt it was time for some new ones. They are seriously one of the cutest families ever. First of all, they color coordinated and matched their outfits so perfectly, I couldn't get over it. Secondly, all of their daughters names start with a "K," which was hilarious for me as I tried to call out their names throughout the whole shoot. Thirdly, you can tell how much they all love each other. Capturing the way they were bonding and their smiles on camera was a pleasure :)

Here are just a few photos from the shoot we did the other day.

First, there's mom and dad.
Mom is beautiful and her smile lights up a room, and dad is hilarious and has an excellent singing voice.

I could tell they really love each other and I'm sure it was nice for them to take some photos of just the 2 of them.
They are a beautiful couple!
I love their laughter in this one...

Then, there is their oldest daughter. She's 12, and I was so impressed with her maturity and how she helped take care of her sisters. She's definitely a wonderful big sister (plus, I can relate to the great responsibility of this position, since I am the oldest of all the girls in my family too) :)

Their 2nd daughter is 9, and she has a bubbly personality and loved to make up her own poses for the camera :) She was baptized last year as well, and she wore her baptism dress to the shoot. It was beautiful :)

Their 3rd daughter is a 5 year old sweetheart who loved to talk to me, particularly to tell me how much she loved the lake and the ducks we saw.

And then, there is their extremely adorable and precious baby girl.
This one of her and mommy is one of my absolute favorites from this session.
I also love this one of her with her dad.

I remember that always being so fun when I was little.
Too bad I can't do that now...1) I'd break my dad's back. and 2) Can we say AWKWARD?

I'm a little behind on my blogging, but the good news is I have a few photo sessions to show off. As promised, here are some of my favorites from the session I did for my sister and her boyfriend.

Janelle is one of my younger sisters and I have to say that I'm so glad I have photography under my belt because it makes for an easy birthday present that you actually enjoy giving to people. It seems thoughtless at first just saying, "Hey. I take pictures. Here's your gift: I'll take your pictures.", but then it really turns into a thoughtful gift when you start to prep for the session, think of creative things to do, and then edit the photo session. I try to put my all into my photos, so it actually is a thoughtful gift, I swear.

We met up in one of my favorite places to photograph...the lighting was perfect and the scenery is always so beautiful there. There were a few bugs that liked to find their way onto the picnic blanket, and our faces, but that's only moderately disgusting when you're doing what you love to do & trying to snap some nice images.

I brought some apples to the photoshoot, and it ended up being one of the best props, I think. I give props to props. They help to customize your photoshoot and really bring out some personalities. It's fun getting ideas from the people I photograph on what they can do with the props. Everyone has a different perspective on what they see, so a lot of interesting ideas can be given. I guess what I'm trying to say with all this is...um, feel free to bring your props? That doesn't sound like the profound ending I wanted it to be.

Janelle's hair was awesome (she loves pinups, hence the awesomeness of her do) & EJ plays the guitar. The hair and guitar added a nice touch to their session. I'm glad EJ brought his guitar. & I'm glad Janelle has hair.
Janelle is about 4'11", aka really freaking short, so we poked fun at that for a little bit. But I'm 5'1" so I'm not exactly sure what gives me the right to do this. Maybe it's because I'm older. That line always worked when we were growing up.

She got the apple anyway...(don't mind the "Twilight" inspired photo)

This photo ended up being one of everyone's favorites...it may be one of mine too :)
I saw the curve in the tree and thought it framed them well :)

My parents had 3 girls...Janelle is the middle child & although she complains she has the "middle child syndrome," (wah wah wah..try being the eldest and having the weight of all responsibility placed on your shoulders by your parents) she's still beautiful inside & out. Just like my littlest sister (the baby has the easiest job) :) I love them both.

For my sister's birthday, I did a vintage-picnic inspired photoshoot for her. She loves pin ups & vintage paraphernalia (hence her awesome hair-do), so she requested this type of theme :) She wanted a shoot with her boyfriend and his adorable little daughter. INFORMATION:

In order to book a session, the price for the package you choose is due to book your date and time. Please keep in mind that this fee is non-refundable.
These prices cover the time and sitting fee for the shoot, and also includes a set of prints.

Time is flexible for each session. Your shoot can last anywhere from 1-2 hours at a location of your choice. You can have as many outfit changes as you want.
When working with children/babies, I am always flexible with snack times, potty breaks, and tantrums :)
If you have props or items you would like included in your photographs, feel free to bring them along. For photo sessions involving babies/children, I also have some props available upon request (ie: baskets, balloons, flowers, blankets)
Prices also include the final editing of your images.
Additionally, you receive password protected access to online proofs in the "CLIENTS" section of my website. There, you can view your photographs & order prints.
Final, edited proofs are available for viewing and ordering approximately 1-2 weeks after your photo session

A reasonable traveling fee is required when I travel 25 miles or over from the Santa Clarita Valley. Please contact me for details regarding traveling fees.

I'm back from my vacation in Puerto Vallarta! It was so wonderful...I'll be sure to do a post and upload some pictures soon :) In the mean time, here is a post I've been meaning to do of a maternity session I did.

Denise & Ben are relatives of mine, and they are expecting their 1st child...a baby girl, named Sophia!...on April 3rd! I was so excited when Denise asked me to take their maternity photos. I've known her since I was a little girl, so it was a pleasure to do it for them...I've never told her this, but I still remember being about 7 or 8, and I helped her with a handprint painting project that she must have had as an assignment for school. Not exactly sure what we were doing, but I just remember a lot of paint & having a lot of fun :)

In any case, the 3 of us met up on a beautiful, yet windy, Saturday to take these photos. Despite the wind and freezing to death, they toughed it out and did an amazing job. I am so happy with these photos, and hope they can be a great memory for the 2 of them in the future.

Baby Sophia will be here in 2 days, and we're very excited for all 3 of them :) Congratulations you guys! Best of luck, we love you!!

[...MATERNITY: CLARISSA...]

Clarissa is expecting a baby boy! And it's her 4th child. Yes, that's right...her FOURTH. She is a trooper! :)
It was such an honor to be able to shoot this maternity session for her, because it was actually the first maternity shoot she's ever done. I think she did an amazing job, and I just love the photographs that resulted from it!! Clarissa even told me her mother cried when she saw some of these pictures...what an honor that is :)

I strongly suggest having a maternity photo shoot...I know I will probably do it whenever Scott and I decide to have children. I can only imagine what an amazing time this must be for both the mommy and the daddy, so capturing the beauty of it in photographs is priceless.
For me, it's so rewarding to be able to capture these special moments for people, especially those expecting a new addition to their family. I have a soft spot for this, since I work as a Labor & Delivery nurse in my other job. I'm glad I'm able to link my job as a nurse to my job in photography...a lot of the same emotions and words you say to people dwell in both areas. I feel blessed to do both!

With all that said, here are some of my favorite shots from her session :)

I told her to bring along something she may be giving to her son, so we could incorporate it into her shoot. These types of things always help to personalize a photo shoot :) This is a teddy bear she will be giving to him...isn't he adorable?

I asked Clarissa if she would want any bare belly photos, but of course, if she didn't feel comfortable, that we didn't have to do them. I'm so glad she wanted to, because I think they turned out beautifully! She also mentioned how glad she was she did, because she would have probably regretted not doing them. I have been looking for more ways to serve & help others through my photography, so a few weeks ago, I ran into The Littlest Heroes Projectand read all about their cause and what their team is all about. I fell in love with it and decided I wanted to apply and be a member of their photography team. Today, I received an email saying I had been accepted!!! :)

On this particular Saturday, weather forecasts predicted rain, rain, & rain. "Not again", I thought. (For someone who enjoys doing her photography outdoors, rain can be the worst enemy). However, I was happy to wake up & see a sunny, bright, & beautiful day. This was definitely good fortune, or else I would not have been able to have this fun photo session with a beautiful mommy and her daughter :)

Laurel and Baby Mia are just wonderful to work with and be around! Laurel is such a sweet person, I really enjoyed talking to her and getting to know her more! And don't get me started on her 8 month old, Mia. She is definitely one of the cutest, most beautiful, little baby girls I have ever seen!! I could have photographed them both all day!

Here are a few shots from the shoot. Just look at her little face! You can tell she loves her mommy.

I really love this next one...it screamed "black & white" to me.

This next shot, Laurel was playing with Mia and rocking her back and forth. I snapped this real quick while it was happening, and love the expression I captured in the middle of it all! She's having so much fun :)
At the end of the day, Mia was back in her carseat and ready to go. I decided to take a few extra ones...she just looked too cute sitting there.

Scott and I celebrated Valentine's on this day, since I was supposed to work on the night of February 14th. Fortunately, I was put on-call at work that night too, so we got to spend the entire weekend together :) He cooked me dinner, bought me a bouquet of roses, and gave me a beautiful card. We ended up getting each other the same type of cards - both were made of felt! Our minds have fused together over the years...

34/365: PUBLISHED!Febuary 3, 2010: Found out the other day that a couple of our engagement photos (taken by the AMAZING & EXTREMELY talented, Caroline Tran) were published in the January 2010 edition of CEREMONY Bridal Magazine! (available at Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc)
Scott and I went to Borders Bookstore to find it...and low and behold..there it was.
My head even got a full page spread! haha.
Scott & I are so happy for her, she's an amazing photographer and deserves it all..this is a big deal! CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, Caroline!
I took pictures of the other pages in the magazine where our engagement photos were...this is so awesome! :)

Happy February!
Thought I'd start off the month with something meaningful...

My other job, as some of you know already, is being a labor & delivery nurse. At work, we wear "always beads" on our badges in order to remind us of our efforts and desires to "always" be there for our patients, to "always" keep them informed with their plan of care, and to "always" strive our best to give them the best nursing care :)

I'm proud to say we are one of the top OB units in the country, and have won awards for being an example of top nursing care and compassion :)

One of the other things I decided to do for this year (along with taking a picture every single day) was to do a set of sit-ups every day on my exercise ball (50-100 at least), and to do some arm exercises. I figured, if I can take a good amount of time & energy each day to take a picture (and sometimes, it takes all my energy to do this), I could take the time each day to do something for my health as well. So far I'm accomplishing this goal & it feels great :D
But this picture is supposed to show how sometimes....I'd rather be doing something else... :)

As I mentioned in a past Christmas post, Scott's Christmas present to me was:
A giant, magical, British nanny!
(I was not allowed to bring my camera, so I resorted to taking this with my phone)

Scott and I went to the "MARY POPPINS" Musical tonite at the Ahmanson Theater.
It was amazing.
We watched Bert sing and dance on the roof (upside down...literally on the ceiling).
We watched Mary Poppins fly through the air with her umbrella.
We marveled at how everyone in Broadway must be on steroids since they don't skip
a beat, or even pant, as they sing and dance.
And now...we have all the songs stuck in our heads for the next 2 weeks.
To top it off, this particular performance tonite had a special guest:
Dick Van Dyke!
The uproar of applause from the audience was hilarious.
It was also very uplifting. Growing up watching the movie, I never really understood the moral of Mary Poppins. When I was 5, all I knew was that she was a magical babysitter that I wanted.
But today, I was able to see what the story tries to tell us: that life throws many things at us...good & bad...but when the wind changes, you need to try and find the positives in it. A chimney sweeper has the best job in the world because he can look at the beautiful views. The homeless old woman who feeds the birds has a heart of gold. And medicine can always taste a little better with sugar. <3
It was a great night, and I'm so thankful to my husband for such a wonderful present :)

So, the rain never let up this morning =/
The photo session I had this morning had to be rescheduled...I'll have to hold in my excitement and all my ideas that I had for it until we try again next week. I was supposed to photograph my friend's 2 kids (who are both so adorable, I can't even tell you!)...we were so excited for this day, and were super bummed this morning looking out the window at the pouring rain :(
But that's ok...once the weather clears up, we'll get it done :)

Anyway, she has a little 2 year old daughter...and her photo shoot involved some balloons.
I love balloons...I'd use them in everything if I could.
Scott, for some reason, doesn't like balloons. He says he doesn't enjoy the noise they make.
How can you not like balloons? They symbolize happy, colorful, celebratory things. Hm.
I spent the ride home convincing him why he should enjoy balloons.
I think I won.

Anyway, I ordered the balloons for pick up this morning, but like I said, the rain changed all our plans.
I figured...I can't let those balloons I ordered go to waste, so Scott and I picked them up and I figured I'd be able to take some photographs of them somehow.

Of course, the rain decided to clear about 30 minutes before the sun set today...so we were able to quickly take some outdoor photos. Here's what I came up with...

Hmmm.
I have another shoot scheduled for tomorrow with two of the cutest kids ever.
It's raining right now.
It's supposed to rain all week.
The shoot is outdoors.
Rain inspires me.

Came home tonite with a thought in my head that these two would be my subjects for the day :) The idea was inspired by my husband's proposal to me at Disneyland :)

So throughout the day, I was feeling pretty creative. This morning I knew what I wanted to do in order to work on my photo of the day for this 365 project.

It involved a bright colored background (I settled on yellow), a matching shirt to that color, hair flips, some cool light, and myself.

Well...the yellow backdrop (construction paper that was way too small for my big head) did not work out...hair flips made my head hurt...and the lighting in my bedroom stunk (and we all know I'm not a big fan of flash in my photography).

So I sat there on the floor, with a "hmph" look on my face, trying to think of what to do. I looked in the bathroom and saw some black candles sitting around. "Hmmm..." then I got to thinking about how much I enjoy candles. Candles are fun. And the light from candles? They're fun too. No good light in the room means I need to make my own light..right? So, I went into the living room, lit 2 candles, kept the yellow shirt on, stuck an old flower headpiece in my hair...and about 20 or so minutes later, 80 random fired shots, and holding perfectly still in the same position (my neck hurts!)...I got this:Picture 4/365:

My husband and I are the new Primary (Sunday school) teachers at church for a group of 7 year olds (we actually have 10 of them! but 4 couldn't make it tonite). Tonight was a pizza party for all the kids to get together, and it was our first time meeting them. They went on a scavenger hunt (hence, the treasure chest "prizes"), and are here sitting *semi* patiently as I snap photos of them.

Well, I have decided to do a "Project 365." Although this seemingly overwhelming task may require a lot of patience and time, I decided tonight, pretty much on a whim (that's always smart, right? Deciding things on a whim?), that I will try it out for 2010.

So from this day on, I will be taking at least one picture a day. I'll be sure to blog it as well, so you all can see if I'm keeping up with my project. It may not be a masterpiece photograph every day, and some may not even be interesting (sometimes I might even just take a picture of my feet, and y'all can gaze at them for awhile), but I figured it will be worth it when I look back on January 1st, 2011, and see my 2010 year in pictures. It will also help me to pick up my camera every day and hopefully learn throughout the process!

Scott and I visited the Los Angeles Temple tonight with my youngest sister, Christina, to see the Christmas lights.
It's always so beautiful and peaceful there.

Here's a (very) small collage of 2009 in review :) [It would definitely include sooo much more, but I don't have a big enough attention span to keep resizing and pasting together these little pictures. I started banging my mouse on the table.]

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope everyone had a fun (and safe) time ringing in 2010 lastnight! To my family and friends (near and far): I love you all and am so thankful to have you in my life. Thank for you helping to make not only 2009, but my life in general, so wonderful.

So... was lucky enough to work yesterday at the hospital from 7am-7pm, but I'm glad I was able to come home to Scott and spend the final hours of 2009 together. Since I worked yesterday, we decided that we would ring in the new year together at home, just to have a calm and relaxing night. Today, we plan on going out and spending time with family, and then it's off to Disneyland for us for the 1st day of the year :)

So back to lastnight....part of it was actually spent with my old-lady-self falling asleep after I got home. I tried so hard to keep my eyes open, but it's hard when you've been awake since 5am that morning. Luckily, my body told me I needed to stop being a wimp, and somehow managed to shake me awake at 11:55pm. 5 minutes before the countdown! (Thank goodness that happened, I would have admittedly been very upset if I had missed it).

Scott and I counted down together, *I received my New Year's kiss*, and we looked out our bedroom window and saw a little fireworks show. Just right outside the window! I was squeeling like a little girl. Then, I started to bawl on Scott's shoulder. Yes. Embarrassing. I know. But I couldn't help it as I thought back on 2009 and all the amazing memories. I felt so grateful for the amazing year, now behind us, and was so excited to ring in another new chapter.

2009 has definitely been the best year of my life. I've made huge life changes, experienced some of the greatest joys life has to offer, and overcame many challenges with the support of family, friends, and Heavenly Father. What a true blessing this past year was!

I feel I need to do some sort of review of last year, so I'll do that with a bullet point list:
-Scott and I rang in 2009 last year as a newly engaged couple :)
-Wedding plans for our August wedding went underway! This took up many of the beginning months of 2009.
- The above included bridal showers, a way too fun bachelorette party, tons of organization, a lot of communication, and striving my best to keep it all together without breaking out or looking too tired on my wedding day.
- My middle sister, Janelle, went off to college. I'm so proud of her!
- On August 8, 2009, I married my best friend and the man of my dreams. We were married at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, and were surrounded by many loved ones (about 300+ guests!) who came from near and far to share this amazing day with us.
- Scott and I enjoyed our beautiful honeymoon in Cancun. We snorkeled, swam with dolphins, saw Mayan ruins, and jumped into a huge natural sinkhole. Our hotel room overlooked the Caribbean!
- I began my orientation at the hospital in Labor & Delivery. It's been quite a challenging road, but also very rewarding! I finished training just before Christmas, and it's amazing that I can help deliver babies and watch the miracle of life for a living.
- Many opportunities and doors opened to help me get my photography business. I love what I do and am so grateful that I can do this for others.
- My father celebrated his 50th birthday!! My dad is truly golden.
- After many years of study and prayer, I made the decision to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My baptism took place 3 days before my birthday, and it was one of the best days of my life.
- I celebrated my 23rd birthday surrounded by my amazing family and my husband :)
- Scott and I went off to Yosemite National Park to celebrate his 28th birthday in October.
- We had our *first* married holidays...Thanksgiving...Christmas..and now the New Year :)

As you can see, 2009 was a huge year (this list could be even longer if I didn't fear boring you all). I am so very thankful for all I got to enjoy...and I am so excited to see what 2010 has in store! Here's wishing all of you a very happy, healthy, and wonderful New Year!

[...PERLA & ANAHID...]

About 2 weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph my co-worker, Perla, and her beautiful little daughter, Anahid. Perla has been wanting some photographs of her and her daughter to frame for her home. Being a hard working mommy, she said she has a lot of photos of her daughter, but not too many of her and Anahid together. She is a wonderful friend and a wonderful mother to her daughter, so I felt more than happy to be able to do this for her.

We met up at Manhattan Beach and the weather and lighting couldn't have been more perfect. Plus, Perla and Anahid showed up looking so beautiful in their matching blue dresses! To make this even more special, Perla told me it was Anahid's first time at the beach! Anahid was slightly reluctant at first looking at the crashing waves, but she warmed up quickly as she held her mom's hand. She would crack up every time the water came up, and eventually she was telling her mom, "I want to go there" and pointed out towards the water.

With that said, we all ended up with soaked feet and clothes, but I had so much fun and felt like I got some really good photographs out of it. I could just tell when watching them that Perla is a wonderful mom, and that Anahid trusted her so much.

Perla: I really hope you enjoy the photos! Remember, the rest of them can be viewed in your proofing section at my website. You both were beautiful and I can't express to you how much fun I had. I hope you can look back at these and remember the 1st day Anahid went to the beach :) And hopefully you can find some to frame!

I realized the photo sessions from this day were filled with a lot of "A's"!
Audrey and Aiden are brother and sister, and they are the kids of one of my fellow nurses, Jessica. (Before I did their shoot, I photographed my other co-worker, Perla, and her daughter Anahid...so there's the other "A". Watch out for a post with some shots from their session later.)

Jess and I had talked about photographing her kids, and with our clashing schedules at the hospital, I'm so thankful we were able to finally do it. Aiden is her adorable 4 year old...with quite a lot of fun things to say ;) Audrey is her beautiful little toddler with the cutest blonde ringlets (you got a preview of them below, in a previous post.) We started shooting right around sunset (my favorite time) at Manhattan Beach.

Aiden was busy feeding the birds (he also tried to share his cookie with me) & Audrey stared off into the sunset, or stared at my camera suspiciously with her bright blue eyes. Also, their nanny is from the Philippines, and has taught Audrey how to count in Tagalog. That was fun to hear! They're gorgeous kids!

[...FIRST CHRISTMAS...]

Christmas was extra special this year in that it was my *first* married Christmas with Scott.
This year, we were very excited to start the beginning of many Christmas-es together at our own little place. After opening presents together in the morning, we went over to my parents' to have my mom's annual Christmas lunch/dinner (I refuse to call it "linner" or "lunner" or whatever other dumb dumb words there are...) It was a great afternoon filled with annual traditions. My mother cried while trying to pray & bless the food. Like every year. My littlest sister showed off how spoiled she was. Like every year. (As she wailed away on her brand new Les Paul guitar). My dad cracked jokes throughout the day. Like every year. We ate the traditional dinner my mom cooks every year...ham, mashed potato, salad, ribs...lumpia (eggroll)/ shrimp / vinegar / pansit (filipino noodles). [Gotta hand it to her for mixing up the American and Filipino culture]

At night, we all decided to brave the crowds and go watch a movie. We settled on watching "Sherlock Holmes," which I enjoyed! (Go watch it.)

But what I truly enjoyed the most was the comfort of familiar traditions and being with my husband and my family. We had all not watched a movie together in a long time, and I'm so glad we did. As we drove to the movie theaters, some Christmas songs were on the radio, and we all sang along with them. It was extremely cheesy, most of us can't sing, and my dad usually gets the words wrong (or just cracks jokes about them)....but I just sat back and smiled at the scene of it. We then had to wait over an hour in line to get into the movie, but it proved to be a great experience just catching up with my family. I'm truly blessed with the best :)

And that was our Christmas :)

Everyone always asks right away, "So...what did you get?" So I'll just get to the point and just show you pictures of some of the things we received... (By the way, thank you so much to our friends & family for all the wonderful gifts and thoughtful Christmas cards. We can't express our gratitude enough to each of you. We love you all very very much!!)

From my *awesome* mother-in-law & her husband. She thought of us when she saw these little figurines, previously owned by her own mother-in-law. These are about 40 years old! Scott and I love them!!

She also gave us an awesome frame of the Los Angeles Temple.

This is something I've been wanting for a long time: a recipe book! Diane even graciously placed some of her own recipes in there and gave them to me! Here's hoping I can cook half as well as she can! She also got me a photography book, which is always great to me ;)

We got this great clock from Scott's Aunt and Grandma :)

Tomorrow marks 365 days since Scott proposed to me at Disneyland. I can't believe a whole year has passed, and we've already been married over 4 months now! I keep saying how 2009 just flew past all of us this year, and Christmas is once again right around the corner.

Disneyland has always been a special place for us, so we make sure to visit it as often as we can (hence, the ahem premium ahem season passes). However, with all the holiday busy-ness, along with work and school, Scott and I haven't had a chance to go since my birthday in September. It was great to be able to go back for Christmas time and look at all the lights and decorations, and just spend some quality time together. Even if 4 hours of it was in the car in traffic ;)

I love my husband and am so grateful for him!

I had the opportunity to do TWO photo sessions today down at beautiful Manhattan Beach with 2 of my girlfriends from work and their children. So that makes a total of 2 sessions, 2 mommies, 3 kiddies, and 1 Pamela. But I had so much fun and I could've photographed them all day! Plus, taking photographs at the beach? I was one happy girl.

One of them has 2 gorgeous children (a son and a daughter), and the other has a beautiful little daughter. They were all too adorable! I will definitely expand more on each of their sessions later on, but for now, I just want to say that I had so much fun today photographing each session. It reminded me of why I truly love to do this.

A couple weeks ago, I met up with my friend Carmen, and her little nephew, Abel, at the park for a photo shoot. When we were planning this, Carmen told me, "Wait til you see my nephew...you are going to fall in love with the 'puff'!..."

When I saw them walking up to me in the park, I could not get over how adorable Abel was! The "puff" she was referring to was definitely a puff! He's got the cutest FRO on the top of his little head...I pretty much fell in love.

He was very sweet and patient with me...Auntie Carmen had told him some girl would be taking some photos of him, and he did a really good job :) As I was taking pictures, I asked him questions as we investigated the playground together. It was cute to hear his answers: He told me he is 4 years old. He has a brother and a sister. He has a dog. His favorite t.v. show is "The Dodgers."
....I told him he was my new best friend, because that is one of my favorite t.v. shows too ;)

There were moments yesterday where I wanted to go out and brave the crowds of Black Friday. I day dreamed breaking my budget and buying myself a new computer, a new Photoshop program, a new camera lens...among other geek-like things. I thought about standing in lines.. and searching for perfect prices..and finding parking ..and yelling at the fool that cut me to steal the parking spot I clearly saw first...and...

then I looked outside, saw the view from our window, and just stopped. One day, I hope to find a house that Scott and I can raise a family in and grow old in. But one thing I know I'll miss will be the view from our apartment. It makes me appreciate what I have.

Fall has definitely become one of my favorite times of the year. It is so beautiful! I haven't always felt this way about Fall, but I looked out the window today, went on a drive with my husband, and took a deep breath while the wind was slightly blowing... and it all really reminded me of why I have grown to love this season so much. The sun was shining, the sky was clear & blue, and there was a light breeze blowing through the trees. And the colors! I just want to take a picture of everything I see. I also get extremely nostalgic during the Fall..which is comforting to me most of the time. I know too much nostalgia isn't healthy ("You can't have a better tomorrow if you are thinking too much about yesterday.."), but I find a little of it helps me feel thankful for where I've come, what I have now, and things to look forward to in the future. Fall also marks the coming of the holidays and thinking back to so many happy memories. It's a beautiful & inspiring time of the year for me :)

Just a few images from my Halloween :)

Pumpkin carving. You know, my family and I never carved pumpkins growing up?! My sisters and I carved our first pumpkins a few years ago, when Scott decided we were all crazy and felt he needed to let us experience such a joyful tradition. My friends, many of which are in their 20s, either carved their first pumpkins this year, or have never done it at all. Craziness? I really think it's a Filipino thing.

Anyway, now that we are no longer living under rocks, we decided to carve some pumpkins the other night. Scott and Christina (my littlest sister), carved their own vampire jack-o-lantern (on the left). I, of course, had a pumpkin all to myself (the goofy one on the right). My dad just helped me carve the lid, because I was looking all too scary attempting to do it myself.

How fitting. There was a full moon on Halloween night.

We were the candy giver outters.

We went to a pumpkin patch earlier in the month and spotted this scarecrow in the sunflower field.

:) Orange is a pretty color.

So to sum up lastnight: I watched as Michael Myers walked down my street...my husband wore a bedsheet...I gave candy to a straggling Yoda...I was terrified by Anakin Skywalker at my doorstep...and about 20 fairies flew threw the front yard.

Halloween is certainly weird, and I love it.

Kara is my little sister's boyfriend's daughter. Today was my first time meeting her and I pretty much just fell in love. She was so sweet, not at all shy, had the cutest curly hair, and was fascinated by a cricket on the ground. On top of that, she was rockin as Bat Girl for Halloween.

This jack-o-lantern kept her attention for a little bit. I like the way the light is glowing.

So Scott and I decided to spend Halloween down at my parent's house. It was nice to see some of the family, help pass out candy, and ensure that the dogs didn't bolt out the door every time it would open for trick-or-treaters.

I usually end up passing out the candy. It's something I've always liked to do.

At one point, the doorbell rang and I opened the door to find this very quiet, very still, and very creepy little guy standing on the porch steps:

Please try to imagine that staring at you in the darkness. He didn't say "Trick or treat," nor did he answer when I greeted him with a "Happy Halloween!" In fact, he said nothing at all and just stood there.... staring at me...

I immediately felt intimidated by this little boy in a costume, so I basically refused to make eye contact, hastily plopped some M&Ms into his bucket, murmured another quick, "Happy Halloween," and began to close the door (swiftly) in his face. I guess I should have felt bad for slamming a door in some child's face, but come on...look at him!

Before I could shut the door, a tiny voice behind the mask yelled, "It's me! Ian!"

Ian is my 7 year old cousin. And his quiet acting skills got me real good. He was dressed up as Anakin Skywalker, even though I think you could mistake this costume for a masked murderer... and my family had a grand ol' time laughing at how awesome he looked, and how terrified I was.

So that was my scare for this Halloween night. Here are the rest of his pictures:

Halloween is tomorrow!! To celebrate the holiday, I'm off to buy myself some treats to trick out my photography :) This will probably include a new camera lens and maybe a bubble machine. We know how I feel about bubbles. I have some children portrait sessions coming up next week, so I need to prepare! Oh, happy day!

I love how anything dealing with photography turns me into a big, happy dork.

There is something about bubbles that makes me happy. Hm. Well, there's something about bubbles in a photograph that makes me happy. If I could, I'd include them in every shoot I'd do.

So I was down at my parent's place one day, not at all thinking that I'm going to make my little sister blow some bubbles and be the subject of a few of my photographs, and it just so happened... my little sister came home after school at the exact same time I was there. And it just so happened that I had my camera with me. And it just so happened that I found a bubble wand. What a co-winkee-dink. Being the awesome older sister that I am, I made the decision right then and there, with no prior plans to do so, that she should blow bubbles in front of the camera as a fun after school activity.....
Ok ok, so it was pre-planned. Leave it to me to ensure that she is doing something helpful and productive after she gets home. But don't worry, I did buy her some Taco Bell. $5.00 meal in exchange for some bubble blowing pictures. Oh, and I also let her play her guitar (well, this was actually a reward for me, because she is an awesome self-taught guitarist and I could listen to her all day on that thing). It actually turned out to be a memorable time for me. We were both doing things we love to do. She was playing her guitar (and blowing bubbles...), and I was snapping photos. It was nice just hanging out with my sister on our mom and dad's front yard. We haven't done that since we were really little.

Bella, our Jack Russell, is one of the best listeners :)

For Scott's birthday, I took him on a weekend getaway to Yosemite National Park. My thinking was that we both have never been there in our lives, and so what a great opportunity to go see something new together. Come to find out from my dad's "you're an idiot" look to me that I actually have been there...I have no idea where my memory of that family trip has gone, and am quite frankly, very disturbed that I can't remember it. Was I abducted by aliens?

In any case, Yosemite is absolutely beautiful, and it fascinates me that something this naturally amazing is only a few hours away from where we live. What a picture perfect gift from our Heavenly Father.

Scott has never seen Sequoia trees. I knew I had to share something as amazing as Sequoias with my own husband. So, while we were searching for the "Grizzly Giant" (a massive Sequoia said to be over 1000 years old), I saw the sunlight shining through these trees and had to take a picture.

It was a wonderful trip & I am so lucky to be married to my best friend. He is my traveling partner, not only through trips to lands I've apparently visited before, but through life :) This last picture pretty much sums us up.

In case you are wondering what type of photography I gear my work towards (or are just wondering what you may be in for if you book a session with me) please read the following:

I love to work with natural light, so most of my sessions are photographed outdoors, or in rooms with great sunlight. I shoot from any time in the morning until the sun sets. I strive to make each session a fun, easygoing, and memorable experience.

I enjoy shooting natural, candid, modern, & fine art photography. I especially enjoy photographing babies, children, maternity, engagement, and family portraiture. What a way to cover all the walks of life!

I have a soft spot for capturing the candid, spontaneous, and natural moments...they bring so much more emotion and meaning to a photograph, and can really show the uniqueness of the people involved. Although poses, perfect hair, and a bit of direction can be fun, I believe that capturing the real moments (the children playing or getting lost in their imagination, the crying of a baby, the hugging amongst a loving family, the kissing of a newly engaged [or wed!] couple, & the laughter while being in front of the camera) make for better images and better memories. I want you to look back at the photographs from your shoot and remember the moments of that day, wether it was watching your children run around, or just spending some time outdoors with people you love. My goal is to show the individuality & beauty of each person I work with while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere.

My name is Pamela Kay Macdonald. I was born in the Philippines, and when I was 3 years old, I moved with my parents to southern California, where I have lived ever since. I am the eldest of 3 girls, and have two dogs: Luigi (the yorkie) & Bella (the jack russel terrier). I am a wife to the most amazing husband, who I recently married in August of 2009 :) I went through 4 years of nursing school, achieving my Bachelors Degree in the Science of Nursing. With that said, when I am not taking pictures or hanging out with my husband, I work as a labor and delivery nurse.

Working as a labor and delivery nurse, I have a great passion for helping babies and families. I am blessed to have a job that provides time and days where I can also pursue other interests. I've always heard that you should do what makes your heart leap, and photography is one of the things that does just that for me. I knew I wanted to do more with my time by helping to capture and add to the collection of photos and memories that growing families cherish so much.

My love for photography started when I was little, and has taken off this past year. I have a desire to learn and take the most beautiful pictures I can. I have found photography as my main creative outlet and I'm so grateful to have been given the opportunities to start my own little photography business.

Art is something I have always been fascinated by because it's a way for people to creatively express themselves in so many different ways, whether it be through drawings, dancing, music, writing, photography...the list goes on. The amazing thing about art is that you can take so many of its forms anywhere with you and share it with anyone at almost any time. You can be at home or across the world, and you can still bring your dancing shoes, your singing voice, your drawing pad, your pencils and pieces of paper. Likewise, you can take your camera along on your adventures. There is an opportunity for a good photograph everywhere.

My passion for photography has strengthened throughout my life as my fascination of families, love, and life has grown. Photographers have the opportunity to capture all the joy, love, tears, laughter, and emotions throughout all the different events, ups, and downs that create the experience of life. I knew I wanted to be a part of that, and contribute to capturing the beauty in families, in love, in friendship, and in the simple things around us.

When I am not taking photographs, I enjoy going to Disneyland with my husband (we have season passes), yoga, reading, dancing, laughing, taking long walks, traveling when possible, & being a tourist (even in my own city).
